Willis H. Ankrom, 86, of McArthur, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2023, at the Holzer Medical Center in Jackson. He was born September 14, 1937, in Vinton County, Ohio, son of the late Thomas M. and Wilma L. (Brown) Ankrom. He attended the Allensville Church of Christ in Christian Union. Willis was a very hard worker and spent 40 years at Buckeye Automatic in McArthur as a machinist. Upon retirement from Buckeye, he continued to work until he was over 80 years old driving a truck and logging. He enjoyed farming his fields and being outdoors, but more than anything he loved his family. A true handy man and “jack of all” he could fix anything. A friend to many, he will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Laura (Ward) Ankrom; children, Brenda (Mike) Brooks and Randy (Cathy) Ankrom; four grandchildren, Katie (James) Dimel, Jake (Amberle) Prater, and Hannah and Alex Ankrom; four great-grandchildren, Luke, and Wyatt Dimel and Jace and Owen Prater; a brother, Wilner (Darlene) Ankrom; a special friend, Brad Palmer; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Willis was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Laura and Randall Smith; and a son-in-law, John Prater.
A funeral service celebrating Willis’ life will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of R.M. Williams Funeral Service, 120 W. Broadway St., Wellston, with Pastor Delbert Allison officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olive Cemetery in Allensville.
