Robert “Bear” Turner, 68, of Southside, West Virginia, and formerly of Wellston, passed away on Monday, June 21, 2021, at the Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis. He was born on January 9, 1953, in Vinton County, Ohio, son of the late Dale Gay and Cora Elizabeth (Jarvis) Turner. Robert was a forklift operator at General Mills for 40 years. “Bear,” as he was known by friends, enjoyed traveling especially taking drives on country backroads reminiscing of times gone by. He liked watching T.V., drinking coffee, and spending time with his family. Most of all, he loved the thrill of finding a true bargain. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his family: Nannette Sowards, his companion of 23 years; children, Harry Turner, Jodi Turner, Denny Sowards (Miranda), and Nathan Sowards; six grandchildren: Aisha, Mamadou, Racky, Danielle, Kenadie, and Jaden; one great-grandchild, Alaina; brother, Daniel Jarvis (Carol); sisters, Mary Kay Campbell, and Brenda Jewell; aunt, Rose Ann Bobo; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bear was preceded in death by his brother, Harry Dale Turner.
In keeping with Robert’s wishes, his body will be cremated. No public services will be held.
