Raymond M. Spires

Raymond Martin Spires, 83, of Wellston, passed away on Sunday, March 12,2023, at the Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth. He was born August 6, 1939, in Jackson County, Ohio, son of the late John and Laura (Hayburn) Spires. Raymond was a people person. He enjoyed talking with others, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a handyman who could fix anything, and he enjoyed watching Westerns. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Peggy Callehan Spires; two sons, Raymond, and Ronnie Spires; two daughters, Melissa Spires, and Cynthia Zimmerman; grandchildren, Lacy (Wesley) Shope, Alex (Ashley) Massie, Brittany (Mitchell) Young, Tyler (Tayler) Massie, Nathaniel (Kaylee) Massie, Haley (Jacob) Donmyer, Samantha Spires, Ryan Milliken, and Katie (Kyle) Henry; 18 great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by several siblings, as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends in the chapel of R.M. Williams Funeral Service, 120 W. Broadway St., Wellston on Thursday, March 16, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., where a funeral service Celebrating Raymond’s life will follow commencing at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Coalton.
