Melvin “Butch” Willard Hill, 69, of Wellston, passed away peacefully at his home on October 28, 2023, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease and a recent stroke. He was born April 1, 1954, to the late Mary and Wesley Perry at home in Wilkesville (Irish Ridge), Ohio. He graduated from Wellston High School in 1973 and was last employed at Rumpke. Melvin was a vocal and passionate fan of Ohio State Buckeye football, the Cincinnati Bengals, and the Cincinnati Reds, as well as NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt. His canine friends, Beans and Toby, as well as his previous pups (Buddy, Lady, and Mabel), were dear to him.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Elaine (Cheatwood) Hill; daughters, Kimberly Hill, Melvina Brandau, and Stacy Roby; granddaughters, Shai (Hunter) Skaggs and Alanna (Sam) Hershberger; grandsons, Andrew Brandau, Tyler (Melissa) Hill, William (Tyler) Goheen, Jodan (Megan) Ross, and Gavin Ross; great-grandsons, Timothy Skaggs, Stefan and Dean Hershberger, and great-granddaughter, Elena Ross.
As the oldest of six children, Melvin also leaves behind his sisters, Innis (Eddie) Ewing and nephew, Brent Ewing and Clarice (Frank) Perry; brothers, Wes “Gib” (Carla) Perry and nephew, Aaron (Chelsey) Perry, and niece, Ashley (Joseph) Nicholas, and Seth “Jim” Perry; sisters-in-law, Sherry Perry, Pam (Paul) Davis, and Kathy Rainer; brother-in-law, Ronald (Pauletta) Cheatwood; nephews, Michael (Kara) Perry and Emeric (Stephanie) Perry; as well as numerous special grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by his youngest brother, Gary Perry; a brother-in-law, James Cheatwood; and several aunts and uncles.
The family would like to thank Joe Crow and Ray Sperry, as well as National Church Residency hospice care, for their help and support during Melvin’s illness.
In keeping with Melvin’s wishes his body will be cremated. A memorial celebration will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
