Joseph Ramsey Lifestory

Kind. Good. Loyal. Gentleman. These are but a few words to describe Joseph E. Ramsey, 76, of Wellston, who passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2020, at his home. He was born on September 11, 1943, in Columbus, Ohio, son of the late Charles E. “Singer” and Julia K. (Bellomy) Ramsey. Joe was a 1962 graduate of Wellston High School. He continued on to serve his country in the United States Air Force in Vietnam. He married Nora Lee Helm on December 16, 1966 and celebrated nearly 54 years of marriage. Joe was quite athletic. He enjoyed both college and high school football. He was a huge supporter of all Wellston athletics and Ohio University basketball. When it came to college football, Joe was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan but oddly enough was always super critical of their performance never thinking it good enough to win a game. Joe was also a very good dancer often times turning on his favorite instrumental 60’s music and dancing with Nora Lee as they cleaned the house on Saturday’s…..A “family first” kind of guy, and friend to many, Joe will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Nora Lee; daughters, Julia McLain and Melissa Ramsey; grandchildren, Alyssa Josie Ferguson, Thomas Zinn, Christopher Zinn, Alexandra McLain, and Kate McLain; brother-in-law, John (Linda) Helm; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Ramsey.

A memorial service celebrating Joe’s life will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of R.M. Williams Funeral Service, Wellston, with Pastor Jim Waugh officiating. Military rites will be conducted on site, and private burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
