James F. Waugh, 76, of McArthur, passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2023, at his home. He was born January 3, 1947, in Columbus, Ohio, son of the late John and Ann Marie (Calicoe) Waugh. Jim was a veteran of the United States Army having served in Vietnam. He worked as the cook at the Hotel McArthur and Krazy Katie’s for many years. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, and the thrill of the risk of gambling. He could often be found playing cards at the local Eagles, (where he was a lifetime member) or watching the “old school” cartoons like Tom and Jerry and all the classic Looney Tunes. He will be missed by many.
He is survived by his special granddaughter, whom he raised and was like a child to him, Elizabeth Matteson (Austin Adkins); granddaughter, Kadance Matteson; and grandson, Christopher Matteson; sisters, Judy Deboard (John Sheets), and Deborah Spalding; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brothers, Ronnie, Bill, Doc, Rick, Tom, and an infant brother; two sisters, Barbara, and Connie; as well as his “maw”, Kate Matteson; and special friend and fishing buddy, Tom.
A memorial service celebrating Jim’s life will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
