Emma J. Norris, 81, of Wellston, went to be with her Lord on September 12, 2023, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. She was born March 6, 1942, in Prestonsburg, Kentucky, daughter of the late Willie and Allie (Prater) Hale. A Christian by faith, Emma has attended many local churches. She enjoyed reading and studying her Bible and watching Jimmy Swaggert on television. “Meme” as she was known to many was an exceptional cook. She loved making Christmas candy and cooking Sunday dinners for her family and friends to enjoy. Along with her late husband, Walter, she ministered to those in and around Wellston for a number of years, especially when they started and ran a community food pantry on the backside of their home. An encourager by nature Emma always wanted to make sure everyone “Stay prayed up, ready to go up!” She will be greatly missed by many.
She is survived by her children: Kim (Rick) Robinette, Charles “Chock” (Sarah) Norris, Bill (Carla) Norris, and Walter “Bub” (Jodi) Norris; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Wanda Hale; brothers, Marvin, David (Diana), Gary (Jenny), Glenn (Judy), and Bill Jr.; as well as a sister-in-law, Jean Hale; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Emma was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Norris in 2015; brothers, Wallace, Chris, Charlie, and Ellis James; sisters, Shirlene Amerine, and Sarah Hale; as well as sisters-in-law, Paula Hale, and Connie Hale.
A funeral service celebrating Emma’s life will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 1:00 p.m., in the chapel of R.M. Williams Funeral Service, 120 W. Broadway St., Wellston, with Pastors Brian Baer and Michael Jadrnicek officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgewood Cemetery, Wellston.
The family will receive friends also, on Saturday, two hours prior to the service, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
