Durwood G. Cartee, 70, of Hamden, passed away on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus. He was born on May 31, 1951, in McArthur, Ohio, son of the late Walter and Vena (Zorns) Cartee. Durwood was a humble man who enjoyed fishing, hunting, and traveling to the beach. He could often be found piddling around outside or building things. He was a talented woodworker and mechanic. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his family: sons, Tony (Ryka) Cartee and Andy (Jessie) Cartee; daughter, Millie (Charlie) Vickers; seven grandchildren: Kyle, Blake, Austin, Kassi, Courtney, Hudson, and Reese; six sisters, Garnet Daft, Marcella (Dean) Lafferty, Alma Peoples, Vivian Yates, Leona Maynard, and Minnie Collins; as well as many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Durwood was preceded in death by five sisters: Alean Cartee, Jean Cartee, Thelma Adams, Lillian Cartee, and Louise Rutter.
A funeral service celebrating Durwood’s life will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2021, at 1:00 p.m., in the chapel of R.M. Williams Funeral Service, 120 West Broadway St., Wellston, with Pastor James Dimel officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home also on Saturday, two hours prior to the funeral from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
