Loving. Caring. Attentive. Patient. These are but a few words describing Clarence "Pete" Betts, 55, of Hamden, who passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2021, at his home. He was born on January 4, 1966, in Columbus, Ohio, son of the late Clarence Betts and Corlene (Osborne) Cluff, who survives. Clarence loved carpentry work and giving a helping hand to anyone in need. A roofer by trade, he replaced the roofs on many area churches charging only for the materials. He liked being outdoors and transforming a “piece of junk” into something awesome. Most of all, however, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his mother, Clarence is survived by his wife of nearly 21 years, Lucy; children, Buddy Betts, Zack Azbell, Kerrie Betts, Chelsie Azbell, and Sha Betts; 11 grandchildren: Phoenix, Azlynd, Dreighton, Ace, Scarlyt, Sophia, Olivia, Zoey, Thatcher, Chase, and Mack; sisters, Mary Jo (Mike) Barney, Carolyn Grigsby, and Florence Meneely; sister-in-law, Stephanie Corder; brother-in-law, Steve (Connie) Folden; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father, Clarence was preceded in death by his brother, Bruce Cline.
A memorial service celebrating Clarence’s life will be held on Friday, June 25, 2021, at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of R.M. Williams Funeral Service, 120 W. Broadway St., Wellston, with Pastor John Pelletier officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 6 to 7 p.m.
