Arlie Newberry Lifestory

Arlie E. Newberry, 87, of Wellston, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2020, at the Hamden Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on October 29, 1932, in Clintwood, Virginia, son of the late Willie and Vaudney (Phipps) Newberry. Arlie was an accomplished poet and author not only having published a couple books throughout his life, but also written more than 600 songs. He enjoyed Cincinnati Reds baseball, Gunsmoke and other westerns as well as music contest shows like The Voice or American Idol. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his loving family, Wife, Ethel; son, Danny (Carolyn) Newberry; daughters, Freda Lilly and Jo Anne (Marvin) Lindsey; step-children; brothers, James, Jerry, and Bill; sisters, Kathryn (Avery) Phipps and Ann Moore; as well as 15 grandchildren; numerous great and great-great grandchildren, step-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Arlie was preceded in death by his son, Michael Newberry; brothers, Cecil, Jack, and Sidney; as well as sisters, Dolly Mullins and Irene Jones.

Private services have been completed.
