Roma Kay (Swaim) Nickels

Roma Kay Nickels, 79, formerly of McArthur, passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Violet Springs Assisted Living in Pickerington, Ohio. She was born November 13, 1942, in Chesapeake, Ohio, daughter of the late Thomas and Thelma (Henson) Swaim. “Tommie Kay” as she was affectionately known by family and friends, attended Marshall University obtaining a bachelor's degree in education. She went on to teach in the Vinton County Local School District for 32 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in McArthur and an avid Cincinnati Reds fan. She along with her late husband, Jerry, enjoyed many vacations with their children. Both having a heart of gold, they also provided a loving home for five different dogs over the course of their lives. Tommie Kay will be greatly missed by many.

She is survived by her loving family: daughter, Audra (Louis) DiOrio; granddaughter, Isabella DiOrio; nieces, Angie Bush, and Tracy Brown; as well as her great-nephew, Chris Bush.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Jerry Nickels in June 2021; her son, Brent Nickels; as well as a brother, Larry Swaim, and a sister, Gerry Lynn Fain.

Tommie Kay will be laid to rest beside her husband and son in Elk Cemetery, McArthur. A celebration of life will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
