Rodney Lee Yates,77, of Jackson, passed away following an extended illness on April 8, 2026, at his home. He was born on January 8, 1949, in Gallipolis, Ohio, the son of the late David S. Yates, Jr., and Annis Mildred (Wiseman) Yates. He was a Vietnam Army Veteran, infantryman, and dedicated outdoorsman. Rodney lived a life marked by service, hard work, and a deep appreciation for nature and family.
He devoted many years to his career as a drilling rig operator for American Electric Power, where his skills and diligence were well respected. Outside of his professional life, he was an avid outdoorsman with a rich tapestry of interests and hobbies. He found joy in riding his Harley, fishing, hunting for mushrooms and ginseng, and sitting around campfires sharing stories and warmth. His love for the outdoors was matched by his enthusiasm for watching his grandchildren engage in sports, when his health permitted. He also appreciated car shows, gambling, and traveling out west, which brought him many cherished memories.
A beloved family man, Rodney is survived by his wife, Christina, who stood by his side through good times and challenges alike. He also leaves behind a devoted daughter, Tracy (Gerald) Williams; three step-sons, Clayton (Joni) Moore, Jesse Moore, and Nathaniel Edwards; a brother, Danny Yates; sisters, LuAnn (Warren) Waugh, Wanda Whitt, and Brenda (Greg) Foster. His legacy continues through five grandchildren: Brock and Bella Williams, Nikolas and Steven Napier, and Calee Moore. Additionally, he is remembered fondly by several nieces and nephews.
