Robert Ely West, died August 13, 2010, at the age of 9-, in Stuart Florida. The son of the late Harford and Lois Ely West, Robert was born in Wellston on June 29, 1920.

After graduating from Wellston High School in 1938, Robert went on to earn a degree from San Diego State College in California. He served in the U.S. Navy for nearly 22 years (1939-1961), six years of which was spent in Yokosuka, Japan, during the occupation, after World Wat II. When Robert returned from Japan, he became an instructor at the Naval Training Center in San Diego. Following his retirement from the Navy, Robert became a superintendent at the North Island Naval Base where he was employed until his civilian retirement in1978.

As a life member of Yokosuka Lodge # 20, under the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Japan, Robert became a life member of the Yokosuka Shrine Club. He was also a member of Al Bahr Shine Club, San Diego, California and the American Legion Post # 371 of Wellston. He was a former member of Shiloh Shrine Club, Wellston; VFW, Stuart, Florida; Jackson Elks Club, Jackson; Fairgreens Country Club, Wellston; and the Miles Grant Country Club of Stuart, Florida.

A graveside service was held on Saturday, June 6, 2015 in Hamden Cemetery. Fr. Donald Maroon offciated.
