Maudie (Kirk) Spry

Maudie Kirk Spry, 70, of Gallipolis, passed away peacefully after a battle with cancer, on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 surrounded by her family. She was born on May 8, 1947 in Mingo County, West Virginia, daughter of the late Donald and Bessie (McCloud) Kirk. She was a 1964 graduate of Lenore High School and attended Elevate Ministries when able. Maudie retired from Holzer Health Systems after 22 years of dedicated service as a nursing assistant. A loving mother and grandmother, her entire life was devoted to caring for others even as she fought her own illness. She enjoyed fishing, cooking and canning homemade “goodies” like apple butter and green beans. Maudie will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her family: Children, Paul (Rossi) Spry, Doris (Bradley) White, and Debra (Terry) Mullins; 11 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Kirk; special friend, Faye Myers; as well as all of her Holzer Home Health family.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Curley Spry (d. 1971), daughter, Thelma Zeigler; brother, Julius E. Kirk; three sisters, Helen Hulvey, Rosa Lee Kirk Cobb, and Joyce Faye Kirk; aunt and uncle, Rev. Willard and Maudie McCloud; as well as other aunts and uncles.

The family will receive friends at R.M. Williams Funeral Service, 120 W. Broadway St., Wellston,  on Saturday, August 12, 2017 from 5-7 p.m., where a memorial service Celebrating Maudie’s life will follow commencing at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Spry-Kirk Family Cemetery, Dingess, West Virginia.
