Mary E. Shifflet

Apr 11, 1937 — Aug 15, 2026

Wellston, Ohio

Family and community were at the heart of Mary’s life.

Maryellen Elizabeth Shifflet, 89, of Wellston, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2026. She was born on April 11, 1937, in Wellston, Ohio, the daughter of the late Wilbur and Geneva (Edinger) Freeman. She was a graduate of Wellston High School, class of 1956.

Maryellen married George Shifflet on June 28, 1957, and together they shared 68 wonderful years of marriage until his passing on May 2, 2025. Mary took great pride in being a homemaker and devoted much of her life to creating a loving home and raising her children. She also worked for a time at Stiffler’s in Wellston.

Family and community were at the heart of Mary’s life. She was a dedicated Girl Scout and Brownie leader and was actively involved with 4-H at the county fair. One of her greatest joys was watching her grandchildren participate and show their projects. She was also a sponsor of F.F.A. and rarely missed a school sporting event when her family was involved.

Mary generously gave her time to her community, volunteering for several years at “My Brother’s Place” in Wellston. She was also a member of the Nazarene Church in Wellston, where she taught Caravan classes and enjoyed sharing her faith with children.

One of her greatest joys was watching her grandchildren participate and show their projects.

In her free time, Mary enjoyed reading and was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds and Ohio State Buckeyes. Above all, she treasured her family and the many memories they created together. Her love, dedication, and kindness touched the lives of those around her and will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her daughters, Georganna (Mick) Scott and April (Joe) Albright; grandchildren, Luke Scott (Matthew Smith), Dylan (Oesha) Faught, Abby (Chris) Williams, Zane Albright (Tabbi Miller), Ryan Albright, and Katie Albright; eight great grandchildren, Raina, Zariah, Hezekiah, Esmeree, Odessa, Emma, Ella, Evan; as well as one on the way; many nieces and nephews, and special friends, Geneva Sorrell and Pam Davis.

In addition to her parents and husband, George, Mary was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Eva and Glendon Leach.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 21, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the chapel of R.M. Williams Funeral Service, 120 W. Broadway St., Wellston, where a funeral service celebrating Mary’s life will follow commencing at 1:00 p.m. Pastors Rodney Kuhn and Jim Griffith officiating. Burial will follow in Curry Cemetery.

Mary generously gave her time to her community, volunteering for several years at 'My Brother’s Place' in Wellston.
