Leland R. “Lee” Smith, age 71, of Hamden, passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe. He was born on January 21, 1945 in Lima, Ohio, son of the late Robert and Mildred (Wheeler) Smith. Lee proudly served his country in the United States Marines. He retired from Nationwide after 31 years of service as a computer operator. He was also a gentleman farmer. For 30 years he farmed nearly 300 acres near Marysville. He enjoyed building and restoring old cars and tractors, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. Lee had a very loving and tender heart for taking care of everybody and always feeding stray animals such as cats, deer and birds.
He is survived by his loving wife, Vicki (Tipton) Smith; son, Joseph Smith of Columbus; daughter, Cheryl Dixon of Wisconsin; step-children, Jessica Huntley Gardner and Jared Huntley, a grandchild; Darian (Sam) White of Wisconsin; step-grandchild, Lauren Gardner; and a great-grandchild, Ada Grace; sister, Mary (Brant) Tedrow of Groveport; as well as several nieces, nephews and his beloved pets Quinn and Piper.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathleen L. Miller; brothers, Ron and Lowell Smith; and sister, Janet Haran.
A funeral service celebrating Lee’s life will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of R.M. Williams Funeral Service, 120 West Broadway Street, with Pastor Tim Jones officiating. Entombment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Lockbourne, Ohio.
The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Friday, July 22, 2016 from 4-8 p.m.
