Jo Ann (Lewis) Wood

Ceynor “Jo Ann” Wood, 88, of Wilkesville, passed away April 27, 2023, at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens. She was born October 7, 1934, in Bloomfield Township, Vega Community, daughter of the late Floyd and Lenora (Davis) Lewis.  Jo Ann was united in marriage to John Alfred Wood on July 21, 1956. He preceded her in death on August 26, 1996. Jo Ann was a graduate of Jackson High School after attending 11 years at Bloomfield School. After graduation she worked for the First National Bank for six years before becoming a bus driver for Vinton County School for 25 years where she retired. In addition, she and her late husband owned and operated Wilkesville Farm Supply and Feed Store as well as operating their own farm. In retirement, Jo Ann was able to fully embrace being a homemaker, a role she truly enjoyed.

Jo Ann attended the Wilkesville Presbyterian Church where she was the Clerk of Session. She was the past president of the Wilton PTA, past matron of the Wilkesville Chapter OES #207, past member of the Vinton County Board of Elections, and Jackson-Vinton ASC.

She is survived by her son, John Alan (Ann) Wood; two granddaughters, Brittany Ann (Jamie) Prowse of Vinton, Ohio, and Brooke Ashley (Derrick) Francis, of Chillicothe, Ohio; three great-grandsons, Trenton Evan Francis, Daxton Woodson Francis, and Lincoln Mathias Prowse; sister-in-law, Carolee Lewis, of Oak Hill; and several nieces and nephews, lots of friends and one special friend, Kathy Fitzpatrick. Jo Ann and Kathy talked on the phone every morning at 8:30 a.m. for the past 26 years.

In addition to her parents and husband, Jo Ann was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne and William “Bill” Lewis; a sister, Carolyn Wylodine (Lewis) Weatherby; and grandparents, Evan and Ceynor Davis and Lawrence and Catherine Lewis.

A funeral service celebrating Jo Ann’s life will be held on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., in the chapel of R.M. Williams Funeral Service, 120 West Broadway St., Wellston, with Pastor John Pelletier officiating. Burial will follow in Castor Cemetery located at Point Rock.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, May 1, 2023, from 4 to 8 p.m. An Eastern Star service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions in Jo Ann’s name be made to the Wilkesville Presbyterian Church or the Wilton Civic Center.
