James D. Kirby, 88, of Grove City, passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2016 at Select Specialty Hospital in Columbus. He was born on September 29, 1927 in Columbus, son of the late Edward and Frances (Willis) Kirby. Jim proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. He retired from General Motors after 39 years of service. Throughout his life he also held both a real estate license and an insurance license. He was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W., the Masonic Lodge, as well as the Moose and Grace of God Lutheran Church. He enjoyed square dancing, playing 500 Rummy, working on the farm with his grandson, Jim, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids.
He is survived by his loving family: wife of 67 years, EmmaJean Weaver Kirby; son, Chuck (Debbie) Kirby; daughter, Vonnie (Chad) Moore; 13 grandchildren: Rich (Jill) Dimel, Shawn (Amanda) Dimel, Brian (Amy) Kirby, Joe (Jessica) Dimel, Dan (Amy) Kirby, Kim (Greg Yurkovich) Dimel, Will (Curtis) Kirby, Jim (Angel) Kirby, Kate Barton, Leanne Moore, Cameron Moore, Justin Moore, and Katie Moore; 21 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Bender; son-in-law, Lou Dimel; special niece, Shirley; as well as many other nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his daughter, Cindy Dimel; brothers, William, Zeb, Joseph, Jack, Floyd, and Dan; sister, Helen Violet; as well as an infant brother and sister.
The family will receive friends in the Grove City Chapel of Schoedinger Funeral and Cremation Service, 3920 Broadway St., on Friday, June 17, 2016 from 4 to 8 p.m. where a funeral service celebrating Jim’s life will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 11:00 a.m with Pastor Mark Diemer officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Galloway.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Grace of God Lutheran Church, 1000 Demorest Rd., Columbus, Ohio 43204.
