Forney Eugene “Gene” Harper, 77, of Hamden, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at the VA Medical Center in Chillicothe. He was born July 5, 1947, in Chillicothe, Ohio, son of the late Forney Elmer and Erma (Detty) Harper. Gene proudly served his Country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Era. He went on to become a police officer, insurance adjuster, business owner (of Amerikleen, a remediation company), and a driver for Athoy and Carealot Transport services. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, watching the news, discussing politics and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his daughters, Kerri Harper and Patricia VanGundy; seven grandchildren, Kyle, Daniel, Brian, Kerri, Lance, Skye, and Trace; nine great grandchildren, Lukas, Payden, Bryden, Kaezden, Irelyn, Jayce, Liam, Avalyn, and Amiya; brothers, Jeff Harper and Gerald Harper; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Harper; a sister, Brenda Kelley; and an infant sister, Judy.
In keeping with Gene’s wishes his body will be cremated. Burial of his ashes will be in Puritan Cemetery, Hamden. A graveside celebrating his life will be announced at a later date.
