Charles “Chuck” Van Kirk,88, of Wellston, passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2025. He was born on June 10, 1937, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, son of the late Chester and Marie (Hart) Van Kirk.
Chuck dedicated 34 years to International Paper, where he served as an operations manager. His career exemplified hard work and commitment, traits that defined not only his professional life but also his personal interactions.
In his later years, Chuck was actively involved in various organizations, reflecting his dedication to service and community. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, and he had been a former member of the Vintage Club, Habitat for Humanity, the Historical Society, and the United Fund. A parishioner of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Wellston, he lived out his faith through both action and involvement within the church community.
Chuck’s unwavering character was apparent to all who knew him; he was earnest and clear in his beliefs, yet he possessed a playful stubbornness at times. This mix of qualities endeared him to those around him, earning him both respect and affection.
His greatest joy came from his family. He is survived by his daughters, Debra Buckley, Tina Unger, and JoAnne Van Kirk; and son, Charles (Jill) Van Kirk. He was also blessed with a large and loving family, including 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (Crowley) Van Kirk, whom he married on June 27, 1959, and who remained the love of his life. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Dorothy, Virginia, and Marie; a brother, Robert; and his son-in-law, James Unger.
