Barbara J. (Wegener) Canter

December 18, 1953 — February 21, 2022

Barbara Jean Canter, 68, of Jackson, passed away on Monday, February 21, 2022, at the Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe. She was born December 18, 1953, in Chesterville, Ohio, daughter of the late Arthur and Ruth (Power) Wegener. She married the love of her life, Roger Canter, on May 20, 1972, and they have enjoyed nearly 50 years of marriage. Barb was a very talented individual. She had incredible artistic abilities including sewing, quilting, cross stitching, drawing, painting, and even creating stained glass. There was nothing she couldn’t do. If she didn’t know how to do something, she made it a point to not only learn the skill, but perfect the skill. Believing that knowledge was power Barb delighted in learning. In fact, after her children graduated high school, she herself went to college and obtained both a bachelor’s and Master of Business degree in accounting from Ohio University accomplishing this all in just three short years.

A Christian by faith she attended LifeSource Apostolic church in Wellston. She was a “go getter” and lived her life in service to others. Over the years she’s been involved in countless organizations including 4-H and most recently, the KidzLive program at her church. She was a great mother and grandmother. She adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, but above all she loved her Lord and Savior. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her family: husband, Roger; daughter, Laura Hays (Dave); son, Randy Canter (Stephanie); grandchildren: Michael Hays (Emilee), Scott Hays, Luke Hays, Brittney Mullins (Derrick), Brandon Barney, and Kasey Canter; two great-grandsons, Levi, and Tucker Hays; a brother, Carroll Wegener (Ella); a sister, Sandy Edwards; as well as several nieces and nephews and a brother-in-law, Gary Canter (Teri).

The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at LifeSource Apostolic Church, 110 Driving Park Rd., Wellston, from 11 a.m. to 1 pm, where a funeral service celebrating Barb’s life will follow commencing at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Michael Jadrnicek officiating.

If desired, memorial contributions in Barb’s name may be made to: LifeSource Apostolic Church, 110 Driving Park Rd., Wellston, Ohio 45692 earmarked for “KidzLive Toys,” a ministry Barb was very passionate about.

Arrangements are under the direction of R.M. Williams Funeral Service, Wellston, who is honored to care for the Canter Family.
