Frankie Powell Lifestory

Frankie R. Powell, Sr., 80, of Oak Hill, died on July 20, 2018, at his home. He was born on March 31, 1938, in Gotha, Florida, son of the late Rev. Silas J. and Vessie (Owens) Powell. Frankie was a good man who loved Jesus and had no problem identifying the most important things in life: God, family, friends, food, and fellowship. He enjoyed reading the Bible as well as Louis L’amour’s western novels. Frankie was very kind hearted; he loved people and people loved him. He enjoyed Southern Gospel Music, liked watching John Wayne Westerns, but most of all he loved helping others.

For many years, Frankie and his wife Eleanor considered their ministry and calling to be one of taking care of and supporting church pastors and their wives. Simply put, “a ministry of ministering to ministers.”  Their kindness did not stop there however, an electrician by trade, Frankie would perform various tasks for those around him in need. He would help anyone with anything. In return for his kindness people would cook for him. Upon his retirement, he took on another job: “installing rear-ends in recliners and checking the facilities.” Frankie was a man with a great sense of humor and he will be greatly missed by many.

He is survived by his wife of 61 ½ years, Eleanor (Toole) Powell, whom he married on January 12, 1957; sons, Frankie R. (Terry) Powell, Jr., and Vinson (Stephanie) Powell; daughters, Pam (Keith) Johnson, and Melissa Powell; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Millard and Jack Powell.

In keeping with Frankie’s wishes no services will be held and his body cremated.

Memorial contributions in Frankie’s name may be made to: Faith United Methodist Church, 320 West Main St., Oak Hill, Ohio, 45656.
