Charles D. “Chuck” Kern, 78, of McArthur, passed away on Monday, December 4, 2017 at his residence. He was born on November 1, 1939 in Chauncey, Ohio, son of the late Charles Edward Kern and Margaret Elizabeth Tippett. Chuck proudly served his Country in the United States Air Force. He was a hardworking man and a member of the American Legion. Quick with a joke, Chuck never knew a stranger. He could find common ground and strike up a conversation with anyone. He always had a smile on his face and was known for his “one liners.” He enjoyed watching football and baseball. He always made everyone feel right at home. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shirley Scott Kern, children: Ed (Lena) Hays, David Hays, Ellen Hays, Patricia (Butch) Reding, and Debbie (Dave) Berry; 10 grandchildren: Christy, Jennifer, William, Sarah, James, Brandon, Matthew, Nicole, Rachel, and Edward Scott Jr.; 22 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild on the way; aunt, Jeannie Tippett; as well as several cousins.

In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his grandson, Thomas Hays; and great-great granddaughter, Emmalia.

The family will receive friends at R.M. Williams Funeral Service, 120 West Broadway St., Wellston, on Friday, December 8, 2017 from 2 to 4 p.m., where a funeral service celebrating Chuck’s life will follow commencing at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor Iris Conrad officiating.
