Ballard Thacker, 76, of McArthur, passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on June 26, 1941, in Pikeville, Kentucky, son of the late John Dewey Thacker and Isabelle (Coleman) Thacker. Ballard was a very hard worker whose priority was providing for his family. He retired from Austin Powder Company in 2007 after 38 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, Ohio State football and his Cincinnati Reds. A member of the Columbus Primitive Baptist Church, he was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather who was quite ornery and had a wonderful sense of humor. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his loving family: son, Ballard Scott Thacker, daughters, Mary Kaye Booth, Kathy (Bryn) Spanswick, Misty (Ray) Prater, Amanda (Brad) Conley, and Connie Ann (Pete) Hipsher; 26 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; his brother, Terry (Marsha) Thacker; sisters, Alta Pierce, Judy Woods, Riney (Paul) Frazier, and Kathy Thacker; sisters-in-law, Ruth Thacker and Carol Thacker; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to his parents, Ballard was preceded in death by his infant granddaughter, Adin Thacker; two brothers, Alvin and Earl Thacker; sisters, Thelma Butcher and infant sister, Polly Thacker; beloved son-in-law, Randy Booth; as well as three brothers-in-law, Red Butcher, Randy Woods, and Roy Pierce.
A funeral service celebrating Ballard’s life will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of R.M. Williams Funeral Service, 120 West Broadway St., Wellston, with Elder Arvil Murray, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Zaleski Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 from 5 to 8 p.m.
